Understanding the Dynamics of the US External Position

چکیده
This paper studies the dynamics of the U.S. external position for the past 35 years, and examines alternative paths for future external adjustment. We develop a new present value expression for the external position that embeds the restrictions of international solvency and can be easily empirically evaluated with time series methods. Our empirical model accounts for almost all the variations in the U.S. external position between 1973 and 2008. We estimate that most of the quarter-by-quarter changes in the U.S. external position over this period are due to news about future returns and trade ows, but over long horizons the changes reect prior expectations about how the U.S. would meet its international nancial obligations. Importantly, we identify the expectations embedded in the current U.S. external position that contain relevant information about the future adjustment paths. These expectations indicate that the half-lives for future adjustment paths towards U.S. external balance are at least 13 years and involve a signicant real depreciation of the dollar.

متن کاملadaptive control of two-link robot manipulator based on the feedback linearization method and the proposed neural network
This paper proposes an adaptive control method based on the feedback linearization technique and a proposed neural network, for tracking and position control of an industrial manipulator. At first, it is assumed that the dynamics of the system are known and the control signal is constructed by the feedback linearization method. Then to eliminate the effects of the uncertainties and external d...
متن کاملDynamics, Stability Analysis and Control of a Mammal-Like Octopod Robot Driven by Different Central Pattern Generators
In this paper, we studied numerically both kinematic and dynamic models of a biologically inspired mammal-like octopod robot walking with a tetrapod gait. Three different nonlinear oscillators were used to drive the robot’s legs working as central pattern generators. In addition, also a new, relatively simple and efficient model was proposed and investigated. The introduced model of the gait ge...

Mobile robotic systems, which include a mobile platform with one or more manipulators, mounted at specific locations on the mobile base, are of great interest in a number of applications. In this paper, after thorough kinematic studies on the platform and manipulator motions, a systematic methodology will be presented to obtain the dynamic equations for such systems without violating the base n...
